Open Call: Emerging Hong Kong Printmakers

 

HKOP Award in Printmaking

In order to encourage young printmaking talents, the HKOP Award in Printmaking was established in 2018. This award aims to discover emerging local printmakers and provide residency, funding and support for creating their solo exhibitions.

ELIGIBILITY

You are eligible to apply for the award if you are:

1. Hong Kong permanent residents.

2. Graduates of local or overseas higher education institutions in recent five years with a degree related to art.

3. Pursuing a career in printmaking in Hong Kong.

FREE of charge.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should submit the following documents:

        (i) CV
        (ii) Portfolio
               - There is no limit to the number of artworks as well as the techniques used.
               - Please provide each work's name, size, medium, edition size, year and image(s).
        (iii) A proposal for a solo exhibition
              - No more than six pages.
              - An artist statement should be included (Maximum 500 words).
              - Detailed exhibition proposal that should outline the exhibition theme, a tentative  working timeline of the six-month residency and expected deliverables.

 

  1. All the documents should be in Word, PDF or PowerPoint format. Unless artworks are videos, please DO NOT share files via links.
     

  2. Only applications by email are considered valid.
     

  3. Please submit your application to contactus@open-printshop.org.hk with the subject: "Submission: HKOP Award in Printmaking 2023-2024" on or before 6 pm, 14 July 2023 (FRI), HKT.
     

  4. Attention: Submissions which do not follow the rules or with missing data will not be accepted. Late submissions will not be considered.

AWARD ARRANGEMENT

HKOP Award in Printmaking is expected to support no more than two recipients and reserves the right not to provide any awards.

 

 Recipient(s) will be granted the following:

  1. A free six-month residency at The Print Lab, Hong Kong Open Printshop, from September 2023 to March 2024.

  2. Venue and technical support, with material subsidy.

  3. Pairing with a mentor who will provide advice and support.

  4. A solo exhibition at L8-06 gallery, Hong Kong Open Printshop, between March and April 2024.

 

Successful applicants will be notified by the mid of August 2023.

SELECTION

  1. Entries which comply with the rules of the open call will be screened by our assessment panel.

  2. Applicants will be shortlisted for an interview to present their exhibition proposals to our assessment panel in early August.

  3. Final results will be announced on Hong Kong Open Printshop’s website and Facebook page. Recipients will be notified individually.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. Applicants should understand and agree to be bound by the guidelines stated in this document.

  2. Hong Kong Open Printshop reserves the right to make the final decision regarding any alternative arrangements.

  3. In the event of any discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions of these Terms & Conditions, the Chinese version shall prevail.
