Print Art Contemporary

In 2000, Hong Kong Open Printshop was established in a tonglau unit at Shanghai Street Artspace in Yau Ma Tei. By 2016, it expanded into a 4000-square-foot professional printmaking studio at JCCAC in Shek Kip Mei, adding an archive and a gallery. In 2022, we went back to Yau Ma Tei and opened Hong Kong Open Press at 404, Shanghai Street Artspace. Our mission is not only to promote printmaking art but also to preserve and pass on Hong Kong's print art culture and heritage.

As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, Hong Kong Open Printshop is establishing a new artspace and evolving into  "Print Art Contemporary". Operated by Hong Kong Open Printshop, Print Art Contemporary will be located in both Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. The new space at SG03-07, G/F, Block A, PMQ in Central will feature a gallery of over 1,000 square feet and will also incorporate Open Press. Open Press will showcase archival documents, Chinese and English movable type, and various printing machines donated by local pressmen, revitalising letterpress printing, which was popular in the 1970s and 1980s, while exploring the lost craft of typecasting in Hong Kong. The current location at L8-06, 8/F, JCCAC in Shek Kip Mei will retain the well-equipped Print Lab and Archive, while the existing gallery will be transformed into a Viewing Room.

We sincerely thank our companions for their trust and support over the years, which has allowed us to grow from a small shared creative space into a contemporary art institution. We look forward to your continued  support as we strive to further popularise graphic art, nurture emerging artists, revitalise print heritage, and organise community art, making Hong Kong's print art an important part of both the local and international art scenes.
