IMPACT 11
IMPACT – International Multi-disciplinary Printmaking, Artists, Concepts and Techniques – is one of the largest professional conferences dedicated specifically to printmaking. It was first held in 1999, by The Centre for Fine Print Research at the University of the West of England.
HKOP is proud to work with The Centre for Fine Print Research, the University of the West of England to host IMPACT 11 in Hong Kong in 2020. Organising and hosting a large-scale conference of this nature is an invaluable opportunity for us, and one that marks a significant milestone in our development and continued efforts.
Since 2009, Hong Kong Open Printshop has attended the IMPACT conferences, meeting friends and gaining experience. Now, after years of planning, IMPACT is coming to Hong Kong. In 2020, with the support of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Open Printshop is honoured to present IMPACT 11 at major cultural venues around the city.
IMPACT 11 will be the largest international printmaking conference ever staged in Hong Kong. To mark this important occasion, we have chosen the theme “Print Art Hong Kong: Legends and Legacies” and planned an exciting series of cultural exchange programmes that introduce Hong Kong’s contemporary print art scene and explore the historical development of print art in the city. From historical lithography and letterpress printing introduced by western missionaries, to printmaking creations by contemporary local artists, IMPACT 11 will showcase the unique print art of Hong Kong and provide insight into its hybrid roots.
Hong Kong’s bicultural identity and historic role as an international hub has played a major part in shaping the development and aesthetics of local print art. During IMPACT 11, we will unpack more than a hundred years of local printmaking history through exhibitions, workshops, thesis presentations and seminars. The conference will also serve as a platform where local and international graphic art lovers, scholars, printmakers and the public come together to explore, encounter and exchange ideas. Bringing international experts from the global art community to events staged throughout the whole of Hong Kong, IMPACT 11 will transform the city into a hub of print art and be a flagship art event for 2020.
