Open Call: Emerging Hong Kong Printmakers


HKOP Award in Printmaking

In order to encourage new printmaking talents, HKOP Award in Printmaking was established in 2018. The aim of this award is to discover emerging local printmakers and provide residency, funding and support for creating their solo exhibition. Past recipients include Glo Chan Cheuk Yan, Cheung Tsz Ki, Jeannie Wong Ho Ching, Emily Hung, Lau Hong Lam and Li Ning.


  • Hong Kong permanent residents.

  • Graduated from local or overseas higher education institutions in recent three years, with a degree related to art.

  • Intend to pursue a career in printmaking in Hong Kong.

2. Portfolio

  • There is no limit to the number of artworks as well as the techniques used.

  • For each work, please provide its name, size, medium, edition size, year and image(s).

3. A proposal for solo exhibition

  • Artist statement (Maximum 500 words).

  • No more than six pages of detailed exhibition proposal that should outline the exhibition theme, tentative working timeline of the six-month residency and expected deliverables.

4. Only applications by email are considered valid. Applications should be in Word, PDF or PowerPoint format. Unless artworks are connected to videos, please DO NOT share online files via links. Please submit your application to with the subject: "Submission: HKOP Award in Printmaking 2020-2021" on or before 18:00, 4 Sept 2020 (FRI).



Submissions which do not follow the rules or with missing data will not be accepted. Late submissions will not be considered.


HKOP Award in Printmaking is expected to support no more than three recipients, but reserves the right to not provide any awards.


The recipient will be granted the following:

  1. A six-month residency at The Print Lab, Hong Kong Open Printshop for free.

  2. Venue and technical support, with material subsidy.

  3. A mentor to provide advice and support to the recipient.

  4. A solo exhibition at L8-06 gallery, Hong Kong Open Printshop between March and June 2021.


Successful applicants will be notified by September 2020.


  • Entries which comply with the rules of the open call will be screened by our assessment panel.

  • Applicants will be shortlisted for an interview to present their exhibition proposals to our assessment panel in early September.

  • Final results will be announced on Hong Kong Open Printshop’s website and Facebook page. Recipients will be notified individually.

  • Chan Sai Lok, Hong Kong artist and art critic

  • Fung Ho Yin, Executive Director of Hong Kong Open Printshop

  • Jeannie Wong Ho Ching, Recipient of HKOP award in Printmaking 2018-2019


  • Applicants should understand and agree to be bound by the guidelines stated in this document.

  • Hong Kong Open Printshop reserves the right to make the final decision regarding any alternative arrangements.

  • In the event of any discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions of these Terms & Conditions, the Chinese version shall prevail.
