◎- Back and Forth — Irene Lee See Wing’s Solo Exhibition

This is a story of wild ducks and wanderers of the city: a story that amplifies the emotions within the recurring everyday rituals and dialogues. In these repetitions, we traverse from macro to micro – the wild ducks accompany the wanderers and reflect on one’s self-view in relation to the other.

Irene stacks multiple layers of colour, smoothens and preserves the rough texture of brushstroke to create mono screen prints. Through this, she presents the neglected characters and time gaps in the dark corners of the city.

In the circle of ◎, meeting wild ducks and the wanderers, Irene was able to start extraordinary dialogues: moments which have been condensed in her unique print works.

◎ About Irene Lee See Wing

Irene studied at Hong Kong Baptist University Academy of Visual Arts, specializing in screen printing and mono printing. She enjoys making zines in her leisure time. The reason why she chose screen printing was totally out of her instincts. For her, there’s no boundary in screen printing. It is not only a precise streamlined process but also an emotional and direct medium like painting. This state of being both natural and passive gives her freedom of expression.

In 2021, She was awarded the TUNA prize from AVA and previously participated in exhibitions including “Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition 2021” (The Hall Awa Japanese Handmade Paper, 2021), “BOOKED:2021” (Tai Kwun, 2021) and “Pathfinder” (Kunstquartier Bethanien, 2020).

In order to encourage new printmaking talents, HKOP Award in Printmaking was established in 2018. The aim of this award is to discover emerging local printmakers and provide residency, funding and support for creating their solo exhibitions.
