Hong Kong Open Printshop is available by appointment to individuals who have an appropriate level of experience in printmaking and a familiarity with the Hong Kong Open Printshop's safety approaches in printmaking.

 

An individual is eligible to hire the studio if he/she had taken class or workshop at Hong Kong Open Printshop, and/or by portfolio review, and/or by a trail session. Those individuals who are selected as hirers have access to the studio and its equipment. They should be capable of working independently in one or more of the following printmaking techniques: intaglio, relief, monotype, lithography and serigraphy processes.

 

Hong Kong Open Printshop's fully equipped 1,000 sq. ft. printmaking studio is located in an industry building in Kowloon Bay.

 

Facilities
Equipment includes 3 intaglio presses, lithographic press, a vacuum press for serigraphy, a dark room with exposure unit, ferric chloride vertical tank for etching bath, light table, paper soaking trays, developing trays, rollers and brayers, hot plate, work tables, and more. The shop is well-lit and air conditioned.

 

Private Lessons & Technical Assistance
Private lesson is available to those seeking to learn safer printmaking processes on an individually scheduled basis. Individual technical assistance for print projects is also available. Please call for details.

 

Open Hours:

HKOP opens 09:00-18:00.
Closed on Wednesday, X'mas, New Year and Chinese New Year Holiday.
*Please note that HKOP has all rights to reserve the studio space for classes, meetings or any other activities organized by itself. Hirers will be notified by email 5 days in advance for the above arrangement/s.

Membership Fee: $200 yearly
Monthly Rate: $800
Caution Fee: $500
*Introductory Session $400
Private Lessons or Technical Assistance $400/ hr
*Introductory Session is for the new member who has experience in printmaking. The session is to demonstrate the use of the facilities in the printshop.

 

HKOP will supply the following materials:
Clean up supplies (vegetable oil and alcohol), ferric chloride for etching
tools (ink knives, xacto knives, rulers), rollers and brayers, rags, and etching felts

 

Application for Hiring
Application can be made at least 2 weeks in advance by filling up of an application form (see attached). Successful applications will be notified within 5 days before the beginning of the applied period.

 

Health and Safety Guidelines:
When you are in, please
Sign the log book

 

When you are in the printshop, you should:
Keep the studio well ventilated,
Adhere to the no smoking and no alcohol rule
No flaming,
Be considerate to other studio users,
Save energy
Use safety solvents and non- toxic materials.

 

At the end of the day, please
Clean up and empty the trash bin before leaving the studio,
Release press pressure before leaving the studio
Close windows
Turn off all appliances
Turn off all lights
Sign out
Lock all doors or if another artist is working give them the master lock

 

* HKOP is not liable to any injury, accident or lost of property that happens in the printshop.

* Violation of the HKOP Health and Safety Guidelines and/or Terms and Conditions may lead to termination the use of the studio without prior notification. The caution money and rental fee paid will NOT be refund.
