HKOP AIR: Cam Wong # Risseldy, rosseldy, mow, mow, mow

May 10th, 2017

The HKOP Artist-in-Residence Programme aims at providing up-and-coming artists with a well-equipped studio space, and a platform for them to further explore and engage in printmaking/image making through demonstrations, sharing, and exhibitions. The HKOP Artist-in-Residence awardee of Year 2016 – Wong Lai-yan, Cam, will stage her solo exhibition “# Risseldy, rosseldy, mow, mow, mow.” at L806 Gallery, as the sequel of her 9-month residency.

In the coming solo, Cam Wong continues her observation on time and space. Instead of using geometric elements as the motif, which was shown in her previous solo shows “Incomplete Moment” & “Isolated Chapter”, she perceives the passage of time from another perspective – a scene in the movie “The Birds” by Alfred Hitchcock. In that scene, students were singing the folk song “Risseldy, rosseldy, mow, mow, mow.”, while the birds were massing in the playground and waiting for an opportunity to attack the kids. The repeatitive melody and the attack audience’s expecting creates a tension of time.
